Harshness of winter

Cathcing the rays

Especially for a wildlife photographer with a day job. Waking up in what seems like the dead of night and spending your day inside and desperately trying to catch a glimpse of sunlight on my way to grab another cup of coffee from the coffee dispenser, only to realise it’s barely noon and golden hour has arrived. But at least I’ve got weekends to grab a shot or two. Well, in southern Norway we’ve got two kinds of winters: Dark and cold or dark and wet.

This is year we got the latter

The thing about not really seeing the sun for 5 months is that it truly drains you of energy, at least that’s the effect it has on me.

getting up early, hiking in the dark, setting up my blind and hoping something wanders into my path, all while drenched, is just so far from what I feel like I’m able to do.

But that doesn’t mean that I sit on my hands and do nothing. I’ve got plans for 2025.

They may not be grandiose, but one of the plans that are already set in motion involves me going to prison - so that’ll be cool!

I’m doing a shoot at a prison, I’m not staying for long, thankfully.
